Safety

A safe work environment is essential in the construction industry. Nielsen strives to have the safest workplace environment possible and promotes an incident-free environment.  Our emphasis on safety begins with the mindset that each decision made during the course of the day is based on performing the work safely.

Our focus is to insure all project team members go home each day safely

Nielsen provides our employees with the proper training, time and personal protective equipment to safely execute their tasks.  Nielsen’s Safety Director ensures all projects meet or exceed construction industry safety standards. The Safety Director’s responsibilities include development of site-specific safety plans and providing industry training such as the OSHA 10 hour and OSHA 30 hour for construction as well as the following:

  • fall protection
  • elevated work platform safety
  • confined space
  • electrical hazards
  • trenching and excavations
  • fork lift safety
  • ladder safety
  • construction site fire prevention
  • first aid

Safety site inspections are conducted at a minimum of once per week by the Safety Director and more frequently during specific high hazard operations.  Nielsen works with our subcontractors to provide required safety training for their employees and site specific requirements.

Nielsen partners with VOSH (Virginia Occupational Safety & Health) to participate in the VPP (Voluntary Protection Program). VOSH consultants are scheduled on a quarterly basis to inspect Nielsen’s projects and provide valuable feedback to ensure industry safety standards are met.  This program helps to encourage and maintain safe worksites.
