The UVA OR 29 project involved the renovation of an existing traditional operating room, transforming it into an interventional radiology operating room. This required a full demolition and replacement of all major systems within the space, including flooring, ceiling systems, medical gas, ductwork, light fixtures, and all associated utilities. Nielsen worked directly with the owner’s equipment vendors, Stryker and GE, both who required highly specific spatial, structural and MEP requirement prior to installation of their medical equipment. Coordination and site visits were important throughout the construction process to ensure all layout, utility and room conditions met the specifications.
