The Addition and Renovation to the Homeless Service Center provides the space for a congregant emergency shelter designed to operate 365 days a year for up to 100 adults, including sleeping quarters for men and women, emergency hypothermia beds, and additional support services for shelter users such as professional offices, meeting rooms, and other multipurpose rooms. The City’s goal is to use the property to strengthen community efforts to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring for residents of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. The plan of the center is to provide access to resources, wrap-around services, and programs that support their efforts to access housing, achieve self-sufficiency, and personal growth. The project allows for potential future addition of other services and/or uses onto the property and/or building in the future, such as transitional housing units and/or permanent supportive housing units.
