The Bluestone Elementary School is a new school built on a 10 acre lot across the street from Harrisonburg High School and beside the Heritage Oaks Golf Course. It is a three-story facility for grades Pre-K thru 5th, along with associated playgrounds and sport fields. The building is approximately 100,000 gross square feet with cast-in-place concrete foundations and steel framing for the structural system. The exterior facade consists of brick, stone, metal and wood-faced wall panels, glass and cedar. A well field will provide heat exchange for water source heat pumps located throughout the building. All project lighting is LED. The building is considered “net-zero-ready”, meaning that a proposed array of rooftop photovoltaic panels could offset the building’s annual energy savings. The project is designed to achieve a LEED ceritification of Silver or better.
