Nielsen Employees Help with Habitat House
Working side by side with other dedicated volunteers, Nielsen employees Jason Blose, John Demco, Jackie Howdyshell, and Danny Kimble recently helped to build a Habitat for Humanity house in western Rockingham County. Nielsen donated a day of their labor to the project; the employees donated their own time the second day. The duplex was started in the spring of 2007, with the anticipated completion date in November 2007.
The Nielsen employees helped to finish up the wood framing so the roofing system could be installed. Since it's a duplex, two superintendents, Jason Blose and Jackie Howdyshell, were needed to oversee the work.
The house was built under the auspices of the Southwest Rockingham Housing Coalition, which includes eight member churches. The coalition was begun in order to share the Habitat project among the members of the eight churches. The coalition reports directly to the Central Valley Habitat for Humanity office.
Nielsen Vice President of Operations Joe Miller is a member of the coalition, representing Montezuma Church of the Brethren. Mr. Miller says, "Nielsen is committed to helping the communities in which our employees live and work. Habitat for Humanity directly impacts the lives of people in our community. Nielsen was proud to participate in this project."
Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.

Soles 4 Souls
Nielsen is proud to sponsor “Soles 4 Souls” shoe drive during the month of February. Through this shoe drive, which is open to employees and the community, people will have the chance to generously donate any new or used shoes to needy people around the world.
Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Soles 4 Souls is a recognized charity formed by Wayne Elsey in late 2006. With the simple mission statement, “to impact as many lives as possible with the gift of shoes, Soles 4 Souls aids in the distribution of new and used footwear across the globe. Originally operating as katrinashoes.org, their organized relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought over 900,000 donated shoes to those affected by these disasters. Since then, they have become formally recognized, sharing shoes to those in need in over 40 countries and 5 continents.
Churches, schools, footwear companies, non-profit groups and individuals can help make a difference by donating new and used shoes, checks or money to Soles 4 Souls. It is small way for one to give back something that is taken for granted everyday. For more information about this cause, please visit www.soles4souls.org and make a positive change.
For the 2008 campaign, Nielsen collected 368 pairs of shoes.
